Outside my window... Our weather is all mixed up! All winter we were in the 70s and 80s. Today, it was too cool for me to go outside.
I am thinking... May is finally here! Graduation season has hit our household. THIS IS NOT A DRILL! The Grand Duchess graduates on May 14th, Sanban on May 21st, and on the same day, Princess Butterfly gets her 3rd degree blackbelt.
I am thankful... Sanban and Princess butterfly when to the Christian homeschool prom in our area. They looked fabulous and had a great time. Because this was Sanban's senior year, they have a table honoring them. The parents have a tradition of showing up for the final dance of the night. There were SO MANY on the dance floor that I didn't see my two until the very end. I am thankful that our city has so much for homeschoolers to do. Our children will never look back on their childhood and teens with regret that they missed out on some once in a lifetime experiences. Cloistered Homeschool Syndrome is very real and very sad. I know far too many adult former homeschooled children who have delved into everything they were kept from as children because there was no balance to their upbringing. It is heartbreaking. I was excited to see while I was posting pictures of my children going to their homeschool formal, around the country I saw photos of other homeschooled children going to theirs as well.
I am also thankful for the friends my children have. They are all so busy with their life goals that it is really difficult for them to coordinate their schedules to do social things. This is something that they look forward to all year. They have to take a month of dance classes in order to participate. (we don't want any twerking and jerking or whatever you call it going on). The final dance I saw was a tango. Most of them were stiff, as they were beginners, but on the outside of the circle there were some pros. There is a dress code and no one has a problem with it. The great thing about homeschooling in my city is if the Christian formal is too strict for you, there is a more progressive homeschool group that has their own prom. Apparently, our formal is so popular that homeschooled kids from other cities have started coming here. In the 8 or 9 years of its existence, the attendance has grown from 45 to 450.
I watched the final dance because I was there to pick up Princess Butterfly. The ball was over at midnight for our Cinderella. Sanban got a ride to a restaurant with a friend's father and they had a late night dinner. Then Sanban and two of his friends caught an Uber back home. Wow! Look at how my baby boy has grown up. Once that great night was over, their crazy schedules picked up again. One of his friends came and went and I never even saw him because he had to get up and go to work early in the morning. His other friend's father was picking him up just as I was coming downstairs for coffee because he had to go to work too.
We had a great family dinner with our niece, a captain in the Army, who came in for a short visit. We also got to see a friend of ours from Atlanta that we were stationed with in Germany. We looked for him for so many years after we got back to the states. We've now gotten to see him twice in one year.

I am looking forward to... My last restful weekend for a couple of weeks. The calm before the storm!
I am learning... There is a mass conspiracy by the government to cull the population by increasing blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration to dangerous levels just by filling out the FAFSA.
One of my favorite things... Friend Hubby blessed me with something I have wanted for a LONG time! An iron bistro table for the front porch! <3 Now I've got to find some cushions and a little table decoration. Yay!
From the learning rooms...
Senior: He's trying to get that big physics research paper done. We are waiting for word on the Eagle Scout board of review. His two good friends just had theirs within the past couple of weeks. We are waiting on his so we can do a joint Court of Honor.
Sophomore: She is trying to catch up on MONTHS of chemistry so she can get credit before the end of the year. Starting to realize that high school GPA is a thing.
From the kitchen... Sanban says that Matzah Pizza needs to be a thing even now that the Feast of Unleavened Bread has ended.
Around the house... I've done some reorganizing in the refrigerator this week. It was needed. Do you know how many jars of the same picante sauce we have? Also, all the salad dressings we bought for Sukkot are expiring this month.
